Icelandic handknits: tour des blogs

Today is the official release of my new book, Icelandic Handknits. It is inspired by the knitted artifacts in the beautiful Textile Museum in Blönduós in Iceland and gives a good overview of the Icelandic knitting traditions in the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century.
The first time I went to the Museum, I was pregnant with Sylvía, my oldest daughter who will be 12 years old in May. I had no idea at the time I was going to write a knitting book about the Museum, I didn't know I would become a hand knit designer, I didn't know I would become so avid in researching Icelandic knitting traditions, I didn't know I would enthusiastically take knitters from all over the world on tours to the Museum. Nevertheless, some 12 years ago, I did take pictures of ALL the knitting in the Textile Museum. So when Voyageur Press asked me if I would like to write Icelandic Handknits, I had a precious material  already on hands and suggested we work with the Textile Museum.
I will tell you more about each of the 25 designs in the book and the making of it over the next weeks, but for now, I'm very excited to be announcing the Icelandic Handknits blog tour. I'm thrilled that so many designers I admire and respect have accepted to join the tour. Aujourd'hui est la sortie officielle de mon livre, Icelandic Handknits. Il est inspiré par les pièces tricotées du magnifique Musée textile de Blönduós en Islande et donne une bonne vue d'ensemble sur les diverses traditions de tricot au 19ème siècle et au début du 20ème siècle. Le livre n'est qu'en anglais pour le moment et sauf publication par un éditeur français, je ne suis pas en mesure de proposer un livret de traduction française avant 5 ans lorsque je récupère mes droits d'auteur. 
La première fois que je suis allée au Musée, j'étais enceinte de Sylvía, ma fille aînée qui aura 12 ans en mai. Je n'avais pas la moindre idée à l'époque que j'allais écrire un livre de tricot sur le Musée, je ne savais pas non plus que je deviendrai une créatrice de tricot, que je ferai des recherches sur le tricot traditionnel islandais et y consacrerai ma vie professionelle et encore moins que j'amènerai des tricoteuses du monde entier au Musée lors de voyages de tricot en Islande.  Et pourtant, il y a une douzaine d'années, j'ai pris des photos de TOUS les tricots dans le Musée textile. Alors lorsque Voyageur Press m'a demandé si je voulais écrire Icelandic Handknits, j'avais un précieux matériel sous la main et j'ai suggéré que nous travaillions autour des tricots du Musée textile.
Je vous en dirai plus sur le livre et les 25 modèles qu'il contient dans les semaines à venir mais aujourd'hui lance le départ d'un tour des blogs anglophones de Icelandic Handknits. Je suis ravie qu'autant de créatrices que j'admire et respecte aient accepté d'y participer. Chaque arrêt abordera le livre sous un angle différent avec la possibilité de gagner un livre. I'm moving! My design studio! Again! But I'm not going far away and I'm not missing the extraordinary view over the Reykjavik harbor: my new place is at the other end of the corridor with more space! So this weekend was all about painting...

In April, I'm invited to do a knitting lecture "From heritage to innovation in Iceland" at the Nordatlentens Brygge in the center of Copenhague, the 21st from 14 to 16 PM.

From April 24 to 27th, I will be in Nantes for the Craft and needles show l'Amour du fil with 3 Icelandic knitting workshops.

On April 30th, you will find me in old Paris at Lil Weasel for a special Fimmvörðurháls sweater workshop from 18:30 to 21:30 PM.

In May 8-12 mai, you are the ones (one of you for the 3rd time!) coming to Iceland to see me and knit with the new born lambs!  

Finally, next Thursday, March 28th, is the official release of my new book, "Icelandic Handknits" and the start of a blog tour that will make you travel around the world during April and May.

Je déménage! Mon studio! Encore! Mais je ne vais pas loin cette fois et je ne perds pas la vue extraordinaire sur le port de Reykjavik: direction l'autre bout du couloir avec beaucoup plus d'espace! Donc ce week-end, c'était peinture...

En avril, je suis invitée à  faire une conférence sur le tricot islandais "De l'héritage à l'innovation en Islande" au Nordatlentens Brygge au centre de Copenhague le 21 entre 14 et 16h.

Du 24 au 27 avril, je serai à Nantes pour le salon de l'Amour du fil avec trois ateliers de tricot islandais.

Le 30 avril c'est à Paris chez Lil Weasel que vous me retrouverez pour un atelier spécial pull Fimmvörðurháls, de 18:30 à 21:30h.

Du 8 au 12 mai, c'est vous qui venez me voir en Islande (l'une d'entre vous pour la troisième fois!) pour tricoter au milieu des agneaux. 

Et puis jeudi prochain, c'est la sortie officielle de mon livre, "Icelandic Handknits" et le départ d'un tour des blogs qui vous fera voyager au travers le monde pendant tout le mois d'avril et de mai.

This week in Iceland is all about Design with the city filling up with events, conferences and exhibitions during Design March 2013, 14-17

I will be presenting my Love Story soft Icelandic lace at the Icelandic Wool Symposium organized by designers Viksprjónsdóttir at the Cultural House on Friday March 15, from 13:00 to 16:15.

Ce week-end en Islande sera consacré au Design et la capitale fourmillera d'événements, de conférences et d'expositions pendant Design March 2013, du 14 au 17 mars.

Je présenterai ma laine islandaise dentelle toute douce Love Story durant le Colloque sur al laine islandaise organisé par les designers Viksprjónsdóttir à la Maison de la Culture vendredi 15 mars de 13:00 à 16:15.

At the occasion of the 100 years old anniversary of the Icelandic handicraft Association, there was a Craft conference at the National Museum of Iceland and the corridors of the Museum filled up with men and women dressed from other times, while the Silfur Íslands (it. Silver of Iceland) exhibition recently opened at the Museum certainly put the tone. 

A l'occasion des 100 ans de l' IAssociation pour l'Artisanant d'Islande, une conférence sur l'artisanat a eu lieu ce week-end au Musée National d'Islande et els couloirs du Musée se sont remplis d'hommes et femmes d'un autre temps, tandis que l'exposition Silfur Íslands (it. L'argenterie de l'Islande) récemment ouverte au Musée certainement donnait le ton.

Retour de salon "un peu" enrhumée d'où mon silence mais je tenais à vous remercier pour l'accueil formidable que vous avez fait à ma laine Love Story dentelle et au livre de Sigriður sur les châles traditionnels islandais et dont fait partie le modèle Herborg accroché au mur en prune ou sur mes épaules en blanc et que vous avez tant admiré. Bien sûr la couleur prune est en rupture de stock... mais elle reviendra! En attendant, j'ai toujours toutes les couleurs naturelles des moutons, non teintées (5 coloris) et le joli bleu teinté avec de l'indigo.

Return from Paris with a "little" flu hence my silence but I wanted to thank everyone for the warm welcome they made to my Love Story Fine Lace yarn and Three cornered and long shawls, the classic about traditional Icelandic shawls, now available in French!  Most admired from the book was the Herborg shawl hanging in the wall in prune and on my shoulders in white. Of course, the prune color ran out of stock... but it will com back! Meanwhile, I still have all the natural sheep colors and the delicious blue.
