Plutôt sympathique d'être accueillie par l'équipe de l'Aiguille en fête tous les matins avec cafe/thé et croissants, sous un tricot extrême de Rachel John, non?

Every morning, under extreme knitting letters by Rachel John, the Aiguille en fête team welcomed us with coffee/tea and croissants: rather pleasant don't you think?

Je croyais avoir pris plein de photos, de mon stand et des robes en dentelle en particulier, pour les montrer à Aðalbjörg mais non... Pourtant, il y en avait des belles dentelles!

I told myself I had been taking a lot of pictures, of my stand and the lace dresses as well, to show them to Aðalbjörg, but no... It's a pity because there was so much beautiful things and lace...

Many lovely participants, among them: Facile Cécile who I will meet again with great pleasure in Iceland this summer, the beautiful wools from La Creuse, the brand new Ecole de la Maille (knitwear school) in Paris or Salgarollo.

J'étais très honorée que Setsuko Torii, designer derrière les laines Avril, vienne me saluer et me donne deux de ses livres...

I was very proud that Setsuko Torii, the designer behind Avril yarns, came to see me and gave me two of her books...

J'ai résisté à la malabrigo de Lil Weasel (elle est certes "un peu" plus douce que la laine islandaise mais elle ne vieillit pas aussi bien, et toc!) mais j'ai craqué sur les tissus japonais Echino Kokka.

I resisted malabrigo woolfrom Lil Weasel (ok, it's "a bit" softer than the Icelandic wool, but it doesn't age as well, ahah!) but I felt for the Japanese prints from Echino Kokka.

J'ai retrouvé avec plaisir Tatako et Darlene de Habu textiles, Rachel de Rachel John et ses tricots extrêmes, et la charmante Susan Crawford mon éditrice.

Erika Knight, est aussi venue me voir, accompagnée de Sarah Hatton, également designer chez Rowan, et elles ont beaucoup admiré les robes en dentelle de Aðalbjörg. Aðalbjörg Jónsdóttir, c'est elle la vieille dame islandaise qui a créé toutes ces belles robes en dentelle dans les années 70 et sur laquelle j'écris un livre qui sortira fin 2012. Sur la photo prise il y a 2 ans, Aðalbjörg est âgée de 92 ans: je veux être comme elle quand je suis vieille!

Erika Knight also came to see me with Sarah Hatton, another designer from Rowan, and they were very admirative of Aðalbjörg's lace dresses. Aðalbjörg Jónsdóttir is the old Icelandic woman who created those wonderful lace dresses and whom I'm writting a book about, out in 2012. On the picture I took 2 years ago, Aðalbjörg is 92 years old: this is what I want to lok like when I'm old!

Most lopi sweater instructions will ask you, before joining in the round, to cast on 1 or 2 extra stitches that will always be purled: those are the steeked stitch(es) that will be cut to open the cardigan. Later, they will ask you to machine sew a seam on each side of the purled st(s) using small, straight stitch, and then to cut between the seams.

La plupart des instructions pour les pulls islandais lopi vous demanderont, avant de joindre en rond, de monter 1 ou 2 mailles en plus qui seront toujours tricotées à l'envers: ce sont les mailles qui seront coupées pour ouvrir le cardigan. Plus tard, on vous demandera, à la machine à coudre, de faire une couture à petits points droits et serrés de chaque côté de cette ou ces maille(s) envers, puis de couper entre les coutures.

This is what it looks like with one steeked stitch. It's easier to see where to have the seam on the wrong side, where the purled stitches appeared as the knit stitches. The seams are thus on each side of the knit stitch: the idea is to caught the most fabric in the seam.

Voici ce à quoi ça ressemble avec juste 1 m à couper. C'est plus facile de voir où faire les coutures sur l'envers du travail, la maille envers apparaissant alors comme une maille endroit. Les coutures sont donc de chaque côté de la maille endroit: l'idée est d'emprisonner le plus de matière dans la couture.

Seams can be doubled but it's not absolutely necessary.

Then, you simply cut in the between. With only one steeked stitch, you have to be precise. This method works very well with Icelandic wool because it's hairy and sticky but is not suitable for just any yarn.

Ensuite, il n'y a plus qu'à couper entre les mailles. Avec juste 1 m à couper, il faut un peu de précision. Cette méthode marche très bien avec la laine islandaise qui est poilue et accroche bien mais ne convient pas à 'importe quel fil.

With two steeked stitches, there is more margin for errors. This is what it looks like:

The more stitches, the longer the ends.

Plus il y a de mailles à couper, plus longs sont les bouts.

You can trim those hairs for a neater look.
