This is what´s in the boxes and it´s part of the completely fantastic exhibition RRRIPP!! Paper Fashion, conceived by by ATOPOS and now standing at the MUDAM (modern art museum in Luxembourg). I took a LOT of pictures and you should definitively have a look at them.

C´est ce qu´il y a dans les boîtes et fait partie de la fantastique exposition RRRIPP!! Paper Fashion (RRRIPP!! Mode en papier), concue par ATOPOS, et en ce moment exposée au MUDAM (Musée d‘Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean à Luxembourg). J´ai pris PLEIN DE PHOTOS et elles valent le détour!

Rice and tuna

Riz au thon

The girls are on vacation and today for lunch, they absolutely insisted on having rice with canned tunafish... :-( I tried to make my own dish a little bit more exciting using my rose-patterned cutters!

Les filles sont en vancances et à midi, elles voulaient absolument manger du riz avec du thon en boîte... :-( J´ai essayé de rendre mon assiette un peu plus attrayante avec mes emporte-pièces en forme de rose!

Akureyri Museum shop

Tomorrow, the beautiful Museum of Akureyri (which likes to call itself the capital of the North - of Iceland) will open a brand new shop. Well, hopefully, because the weather conditions are such that a lot of the products to be on display haven´t make it there yet... My stuff for example, is still on the road! On the picture, a prjónastokkur, an old carved wooden box from the Museum where knitting needles were kept.

Demain le joli Musée de Akureyri (dixit la capitale du Nord - de l´Islande) ouvrira un petit magasin. En tout cas, on l´espère car le temps typiquement islandais et plutôt violent, fait que beaucoup d´objets à la vente n´arriveront pas à temps... Mes créations, par exemple, sont toujours sur la route! Sur la photo, un prjónastokkur, une boîte ancienne en bois ouvragé où garder ses aiguilles à tricoter, conservé au Musée.

Scarf for joy and color

At the time knitted inserts were used in traditionnal Icelandic soft shoes, everyone in Iceland liked to own a pair of inserts with a rose-pattern; they brought color and joy into extremely difficult lives.

Today is the right moment to sit down, reflect on the inserts and start to knit this beautiful scarf made of yarn scrapes. It will make more than one happy and warm. You will find the instructions here. And because Iceland needs bright color and warmness right now, by solidarity, the instructions are free in Icelandic!

Aux temps passés, lorsque les Islandais utilisaient encore des semelles tricotées dans leurs chaussures souples de peau, tout le monde apréciait une belle paire de semelles ajourées de roses; elle mettaient de la joie et de la couleur dans une vie par ailleurs extrêmement rude et difficile.
Aujourd´hui, c´est le moment de se poser et de tricoter cette jolie écharpe ajourées des mêmes roses et faites de restes de laine. Elle en tiendra plus d´un au chaud, à la gorge et surtout au coeur. Vous trouverez les instructions détaillées pour ce modèle ici.
La vie est un peu difficile en ce moment en Islande, alors, par solidarité, le modèle est gratuit en islandais!

In the stair case

Someone forgot to take off his shoes!
This is a blink of my collection of knitted insoles. I was going to knit the all 250 but fortunately I stopped after 40 and, instead, I wrote my book, Icelandic Knitting using Rose-pattern. Right now I´m working on a French adaptation of it.

Quelqu´un n´a pas enlevé ses semelles en rentrant à la maison!
Un échantillon de ma collection de semelles tricotées islandaises: à une époque j´avais l´intention de tricoter une réplique des quelques 250 semelles qui ont croisé mon chemin. A 40 je me suis arrêtée et à la place, j´ai écrit mon livre, Rósaleppaprjón í nýju ljósi. Et comme je suis en train de le traduire/réécrire en français, voici en avant-première le titre: Le tricot jacquard islandais ou le renouveau de la semelle tricotée islandaise.

NICE08

My knitting book, Icelandic Knitting using rose patterns, will have a special place at the design show NICE08 20-30th November. NICE08 is the first Nordic Art and Culture Festival to take place in the North West UK. It is a combined arts festival presenting the best in collaborative works between the UK and the Nordic countries. The festival takes place in Liverpool, chosen European City of Culture this year. More informations about the festival here, and more to come on this site. Stay tuned!

Roseburger and chocolate cake

Today for lunch, I had roseburger and chocolate cake. I´m not usually that greedy (well, actually, I am) but I had to take more pictures of playful food made with my rose-patterned cutters. The burger sort of shrink after cooking, so the cheese pattern was a little bit too big and I got a little clumsy with the ketchup... But I think the chocolate cake with cream, blueberries and raspberries came out nicely. I didn´t eat it all though, and saved the three pieces for my girls! And you can knit a matching sweater, beret or scarf from my book, Icelandic Knitting using rose-patterns! I am planning in a near future to open an etsy shop, but it all takes time.
